🌱 Feeling the need to ground and root? Try this anxiety-quelling breath technique from Stanford neuroscientist and professor Andrew Huberman @hubermanlab
The Physiological Sigh 🫁
1. Inhale through the nose
2. Inhale again on top of your first inhale but shorter than the first
3. Extended exhale through the mouth longer than your two inhales
4. Repeat 3 times
5. It takes about 40 seconds to begin to feel the effects
Why this Works 🧠
It’s a breath that our bodies naturally move to take when carbon dioxide levels in our lungs become too high as a result of stress or anxiety. We experience the physiological sigh naturally when we’re sleeping and throughout our days and it’s just another beautiful example of how we can use the breath to take care of our body and shift our state of mind.
What’s your go-to breath technique to calm yourself?
How do you wrap up your holiday weeks?
We beleive ending ours mindfully with a ritual that helps us recognize, accept, and release!
✨ Some Qs you can use to begin your wrap up ritual:
• What am I grateful for?
• What stressed me out?
• What am I proud of?
• What did I learn?
• What can I let go of?
• What am I looking forward to on my rest days?
Take 5-10 minutes or more to reflect on these as you meditate, journal, workout, relax with a glass of wine, lay in bed, You decide.
Let us know how you wrap up your holidays below👇
Happy January Moovies!
Dear 2021…you gave us so much distress and stretched us to our limits but our resiliency meant that whatever unusual shape we needed to take on this year, we only bent, never broke. We are more Pliable than ever.
You taught us that we have the extraordinary capacity to bounce back from the unexpected and to wiggle around the non-sense. To be flexible, fluid, and free flowing, and to acknowledge that we’re always just doing our best. We got this!
Resiliency doesn’t have a timeline, so if you’re still feeling a little wound up as we head into 2022, remember that this state is not permanent, and every moment (not just when the clock strikes midnight tonight) is your chance to begin again.
🌱 Reflection: What from 2021 can you release? How were you resilient this year?
🌱 Intention: How will you intentionally care for and continue to build your resilience?
SHALL WE BEGIN? LiveStream Schedule starts Monday with @alexei_geronimo
and THE FLOW at 12 noon.
Let’s dive into a deeper reflection on change. Whatever may be coming up for you right now, this is a gentle reminder to ride that wave to see beyond what your present moment may feel like.
“Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge” - Eckhart Tolle 🌊
❄ Tip: Winter blues? We know the feeling... Take a moment (or many!) whenever you can to express compassion towards yourself and those around you. We truly do not know what someone may be going through and by simply extending kindness 🤍 and empathy you are helping the cause.
Myself and many others strongly believe health and wellness are both physically and mentally ESSENTIAL - Our MOOV Studio and other like-minded businesses provide spaces and support for people to channel their energy in a positive way. The cure to addiction is NOT abstinence, it is CONNECTION.
MOOV supports mental, emotional and physical health for individuals while at once offering a community outlet for many.
Whether it’s our flagship studio downtown vancouver, a gym, CrossFit or any other business that gives people this outlet, it is IMPERATIVE to provide such spaces. They allow people to make healthy choices and generate positivity throughout.
With everything that has transpired over the last 21 months, depression is at an all time high.
Truthfully, I cannot tell you how many people have expressed their gratitude for having a place to go in a time of great need. Now with our doors closed once again, where do these people go when their healthy space has been taken away?
We appreciate the severity of a pandemic and the impact it has had on our communities. Our studio has and will continue to follow Health and Safety protocols to ensure that we can provide a safe space for our members.
Whether you are a business owner in the fitness industry, member of an exercise facility, a dance studio… or simply a HUMAN being seeking wellness, I invite you to sign this petition.
If you too feel that yoga, movement and connection play an integral role in your well-being, I invite you to sign this petition.
Please share, as together we will have a louder voice and a better opportunity in having our doors re-open as an essential service for mental health.
We need your support. Please add your signature to this petition.

🌊 Going on with the flow
Jon Kabat-Zinn famously said, “You can’t stop the waves but you can learn to surf”.
In the ocean of life, there are the everyday mini waves, the challenging medium sized waves, and the waves that are so big they feel like they’ll swallow you whole. These waves hit us differently each time... they can disorient us and leave us not knowing which way is up, or have us feeling like we’re endlessly treading water, without a lifeboat in sight.
When we learn to surf through practicing movement and mindfulness we start to ride the unstoppable waves of life instead of becoming consumed by them 🏄♀️
✨ A consistent practice builds internal resiliency. The more we practice, the more equipped we are to handle the waves of life with a more positive outlook. When we get knocked down we have already the built the skills needed to get back up and keep riding!
✨ We learn to let tough thoughts and feelings go more easily and not become fixated on them, which means those big life waves become smaller and hold less power over us.
✨ We’re able to just go with the flow. Practicing acceptance, self-love, and non-judgement towards ourselves and the situation at hand means we can go with the current instead of exhausting ourselves fighting against it.
🧘♀️New to movement or want to brush up on your connecting? Join our Community to Move, Breathe, Meditate and much more through online workshops and classes. We extended the season pass to 4 month class pass! $199 + GST. Link in bio! Only available until Dec 30th!
Are you the ‘wait for your calm until the weekend’ type or is unwinding from stress part of your daily routine?
It might be tempting to power through your busy week, holiday shopping and save the self care for the weekend but our mind and body love a consistent routine of rest, no matter how big or small.
Here are some ways to create more consistent calm in your week:
🌅 Expose yourself to 2-10 minutes of daylight first thing in the morning, even when it’s cloudy. Sunlight upon waking triggers a neural circuit controlling cortisol and melatonin which leads to better sleep at night and is critical in managing mood and health.
✨ Try something fun and new. Shake up a monotonous week and generate an unexpected boost of dopamine. Join us for an upcoming event and experience nidra or sound healing for the first time online! Launching Tuesday!
⏰ Schedule in time to unwind. Whether it’s 5 minutes or an hour, make and commit to a daily routine of checking in and slowing down. You can also add in a meditation practice with our easy 2 week Unlimited Intro Offer with just 30 minutes a day.
💡Look for easy routine reminders. Practice deep breathing whenever you brush your teeth or see if you can sneak in some mindful observation of your thoughts when washing dishes.

“What we don’t need in the midst of struggle is shame for being human” - @brenebrown
The Humanly Human. Observing, accepting, and embracing the messiness, the beauty, and all that’s in between when being a human being. ✌️💛
🌱 Ways to be compassionate to your human:
• Practice self compassion (speak and sweetly about yourself)
• Seek what brings you joy and spend time doing it
• Nourish your body
• Seek silence
• Breathe deeply
• Make room for relaxation and restoration
• Recognize that it’s unrealistic to feel positive all the time
• Embrace your mistakes and give yourself permission to make them
• Connect with others
• Give generously (time, love, energy) when you can
MOOV is a place to be.
